Explaining complexity to non-technical audiences
Many environmental consultants are highly skilled in their technical subject areas, but do not communicate their knowledge well enough. Academic training involves communicating most often with others in the same subject field where jargon is always used and shortcuts do not lose the audience.
This approach to communications does not work in the real world. Decision-makers do not have the same depth of knowledge as do the consultants addressing them. If you look carefully, you can watch their eyes glaze over as the consultant tries to impress them with his knowledge.
We excel at clearly and effectively communicating complex scientific issues to non-technical audiences. When such communications is important to you, call us to discuss your situation.
"I recently retained Rich Shepard and Applied Ecosystem Services, Inc. to consult in litigation involving complicated water issues. ... Since the issues may arise again in the future, I cannot detail all that he did, but suffice it to say that he took a very complicated issue and put it into a form that I and a jury could understand."
-- Timothy J. Heinson, Attorney at Law
"We really appreciated this, along with his knowledge about the aquatic environment and professionalism in meeting with the Legislative Committee Chairman to explain our response to a key study about fluoride and salmon in the Columbia River. His careful analysis and written report were persuasive.
-- Jane B. Myers, Director of Governmental Affairs, Oregon Dental Association
"Dr. Shepard's work was thorough and based on the best available scientific information. ... His written and oral communications is clear and concise."
